Insulation Before & After in San Antonio, TX

Most homeowners never see their attic after the build crew leaves. That’s why we document our work. The before photos show what San Antonio summers do to old insulation: settled fiberglass, rodent damage, gaps around can lights. The after photos show a clean thermal barrier that holds air where it belongs. Here’s what actual jobs look like when the work is done right.

Blown-In Insulation: 1990s Home Near Alamo Heights

BeforeBeforeAfterAfter

The original fiberglass batts had compressed to about R-13 in a zone that calls for R-38 or better. We air-sealed the top plates and can light housings, then blew Owens Corning AttiCat fiberglass over the entire attic floor to a uniform R-38. The homeowner called two weeks later to say the upstairs guest room finally held temperature past 3 p.m.

Spray Foam Insulation: Open-Cell on a Vented Attic Near Stone Oak

BeforeBeforeAfterAfter
Spray foam insulation project in Stone Oak, San Antonio. Photo placeholder.

This attic had the classic Stone Oak problem: a roofline that baked all afternoon and ductwork sweating in the heat. We applied Icynene open-cell spray foam to the roofline, creating an unvented attic that stayed within eight degrees of the living space. Before, the second floor ran 15 degrees warmer than the thermostat setting. After, the HVAC cycled normally.

Attic Insulation Replacement: Rodent Damage Near King William

BeforeBeforeAfterAfter
Attic insulation replacement project in King William, San Antonio. Photo placeholder.

King William’s older homes often hide years of squirrel traffic in the attic. This one had tunnels through the batts and droppings throughout. We removed the old insulation, sanitized the attic deck, sealed the entry points, and installed fresh Johns Manville batts to R-30. The homeowner’s energy bill dropped $40 the first full month.

Spray Foam Insulation: Closed-Cell on a Hot Wall Near Medical Center

A west-facing wall in this Medical Center-area home turned a bedroom into an oven every summer afternoon. We injected Demilec closed-cell spray foam into the wall cavities. Closed-cell acts as both insulation and air barrier, and the room’s afternoon gain dropped noticeably. The homeowner said it was the only bedroom they could use for a home office without running a portable AC.

Blown-In Insulation: Attic Topping Over Old Batts Near Palo Alto

This attic had a patchwork of old batts installed decades ago, some sections bare plywood where wind had shifted them. We topped the entire floor with GreenFiber cellulose blown to R-49. Cellulose fills gaps naturally, and the added depth brought the whole attic to a consistent thermal layer that had never existed.

Attic Insulation: Knee Wall and Access Remediation Near Castle Hills

The upstairs bonus room in this Castle Hills house shared a wall with an unconditioned attic space. That knee wall had no insulation at all. We built the wall out with CertainTeed batts, sealed the access door with weatherstripping, and added an insulation dam around the attic hatch. The room finally stayed comfortable year round.
